The Italian American Museum of Los Angeles Presents "Italianitá: Artists of the Italian Diaspora Reflect on History and Identity" - A Temporary Exhibition of Visual Art that Explores the Italian Diaspora.

About the exhibition: In the arts, the term diaspora refers to artists who have migrated from one part of the world to another, or whose ancestors have. Their diverse experiences figure prominently in their work, which often touches upon themes such as hyphenated or dual identity; memory; shared and non-shared rituals; community; history; faith; contemporary issues; dislocation, and migration. The artists frequently facilitate alternative narratives, promote understanding of the group’s multi-layered identity, and challenge the structures of the established art world.

Using the visual arts as a vehicle, Italianitá will showcase the history and cultural richness of the Italian Diaspora, and celebrate the beliefs, practices, traditions, and customs connected to these movements. It will showcase work by some of the most revered artists of the Italian Diaspora.

To qualify for inclusion artists must: 1) Have been born in Italy OR be the child, grandchild, great-grandchild, etc. of Italian immigrants. 2) No longer reside in Italy. 3) Complete and submit the Submission Form

Artists who do not meet these criteria or who fail to complete the Submission Form will be disqualified. The selection process is extremely competitive. Artists may submit works in any visual arts medium: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, jewelry, photography, textile, multimedia, installation, mixed media, etc. A maximum of three submissions per artist will be considered.

DO NOT mail or bring original artwork to the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles or the IAMLA administrative offices; it will be rejected. The IAMLA is not responsible for work that was not specifically accepted in writing for inclusion in the exhibition and will not incur costs for the work’s storage or return. DEADLINE: February 1, 2018 Submissions made after the deadline will not be considered.
