Harmony Runs on a Thread retraces Cavallini's path from the mid-sixties when, inspired by the contemporary art world and in particular Optical Art, he revolutionized the look and perception of women's hosiery and created a brand that is today known around the world.

Cavallini's artistic research developed from his experience with hosiery. Through his use of nylon, the artist creates three-dimensional architectural pieces where mathematics, architecture, and geometry are fundamental elements. His art is a dialog between the soft fabric and the rigid fractals, resulting in perfect harmony. The exhibition will be on view through August 25, 2017.

Emilio Cavallini was born in San Miniato (Pisa) in 1945. As a student, he collaborated with Mary Quant right after the revolution of the miniskirt. Cavallini drew inspiration to dedicate himself to hosiery, launching stripes and polka dots, which became icons for Dior. In 1969, he founded the company Stilnovo and was immediately successful. Cavallini produced and collaborated for the most important international brands including Dior, Celine, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and Gucci as well as more recently Zara and Victoria's Secret. Emilio Cavallini hosiery is distributed in over 35 countries around the world.
During his activity as a designer, he simultaneously cultivated his creativity through art. In February 2011, the Triennale in Milan dedicated a vast retrospective to him entitled Trasfigurazione (Transfiguration). His works were displayed in 2015 at Rosai e Ugolini in New York, Opera Gallery in Paris and Galleria Valmore in Vicenza. He created a new exhibit in 2016 for the GR Gallery in New York. In conjunction with this first exhibit in Los Angeles, a project dedicated to the 20 artists who most influenced style in the Twentieth Century, curated by Anna Wintour (Vogue), will be on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and will include photographs from Cavallini's book about his designs. The book, entitled Emilio Cavallini, covers his artistic career and was published in 2010 by Skira.
