The 11th edition of the Los Angeles, Italia Film Festival will open with the American premiere of the Pope Francis biopic Call Me Francesco on Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Chinese Six Theaters. The festival is held one week before the Oscars and aims to draw attention to new and established talent from Italy.
Directed by Daniele Luchetti, the film world premiered at the Vatican last December before an audience of 7,000, including many of Rome's homeless and poor. The film stars Rodrigo De la Serna (The Motorcycle Diaries) as a young Jorge Mario Bergoglio during the military dictatorship in Buenos Aires, through to his rise as the first pontiff from the Americas.
