The City Councilors of Charlottesville, VA expect to consider a resolution Monday night that would change the name of an October observance. Vice-Mayor Wes Bellamy believes the time is right for the city to get rid of Columbus Day, and replace it with Indigenous Peoples Day. Columbus Day has been a part of federal and state calendars since 1937.
The council will also get an update on its stormwater utility program, and explore its affordable housing efforts. The session will begin at 7 p.m. in the council chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
