Food is one of the stars of Jeffersonville big Italian festival

Of all the "ethnic" foods that have found their way into the American diet, Italian food has been perhaps the most pervasive.

Love of Italian-American food will be one of the reasons several thousand people will converge on West Court Avenue in Jeffersonville, Ind., this weekend for the Southern Indiana town's fifth annual Italian Festival.

Festival coordinator Bernie Pasquantino, who with his sister runs Adrienne & Co. Bakery Cafe, 129 W. Court Ave., explained how the popular local ethnic festival moved from the Highlands.
"It was started 10 or so years ago by Bernie Carduccci, the head of the Italian-American Association in Louisville. He was doing it at a Catholic Church in the Highlands. But Bernie lives in Jeffersonville, and is a fan of our bakery. So we got to talking, and we decided it would be a good idea to move it over here."
