One of the many great cultural events on Detroit’s busy calendar is the annual Italian Film Festival USA, which brings free screenings of contemporary Italian movies to a dozen cities across the country. The Motor City is celebrating its 10th year as part of the cinematic binge. And last year, it was the leader in attendance. More than 3,500 people went the 2016 screenings, putting Detroit ahead of all the other participating cities.
Three things to remember: 1. All 11 of the films scheduled are subtitled, so there’s no need to worry about a language barrier; 2. Everyone is welcome, even if your only connection to Italy is limited to a love of pasta; and 3. It’s a great chance to experience the universal nature of cinema, which brings people together through common themes and aspirations.
