Six-hundred gallons of sauce, 23,000 meatballs, 200,000 ravioli, a little love, some laughter, and over one hundred years of tradition were the recipe for one of the areas Palm Sunday dinning experiences. About 2,000 served up their plates at the Sacred Heart Church Original Italian Dinner. The meal has been a spring ritual since 1911.
For Mike Carovillano, the meal is about family. "It started with my grandfather, my father, myself, now my sons and pretty soon, my grandsons," Carovillano said. Brothers from the Sons of Italy social club mixed, stirred and simmered the ingredients through the weekend. But the cooks like John Corsini say the secret ingredient is love.
