You might have to wait a little longer — until spring — for a big plate of Sons of Italy pasta. A blaze in January 2017 damaged the popular Omaha hall on 10th Street south of downtown. The Sons had hoped to reopen the hall this month. Dr. Tom Pruse, a leader of the Sons, said the delay was caused by reconstruction costs that ended up higher than expected. The estimate is now $1.3 million.

Insurance will cover about $565,000 of the cost, leaving a gap of more than $700,000, said Pruse, who is president of the Nebraska chapter of the Order of Sons and Daughters of Italy in America. He said the Omaha group is raising funds to help pay costs not covered by insurance and also might have to take out a loan.
