After nearly four years of painstaking work, British architect, Barnaby Gunning, assisted by a team of volunteer photographers, 3D modelers and Google engineers, brought the story of the closed city of L'Aquila to Boston, via MIT and FILIPPO Ristorante.
L'Aquila, the capital of the Abruzzo region was damaged by a major 6.3 earthquake that struck at 3:32 a.m. on April 6, 2009 leaving thousands injured, 308 dead and their loving families broken. Images of hundreds of coffins, many of aspiring students and children, is an image that will stay in the collective memory of the compassionate forever.
