It's not hard to see Italy as the epicenter of culture. It has music, it has philosophers, it has artists and it most assuredly has great food. ArtsNaples World Festival has taken "Il bel paese" — the beautiful country, as it is known — for its theme this year.

There's a special affinity here for the country from our city's own name, Naples, came. We have several Italian heritage and culture organizations and more Italian restaurants than possibly should be legal per capita. There's a rich association with a culturally rich country. If anything, shoehorning potential events into its 10-day span May 1-10 might have been the hardest part of organizing this year.
