Texas in summer means hot days at the lake grilling. It usually doesn't mean opera. But beginning 7:30 p.m. July 18, students of Red River Lyric Opera will perform four operas in Midwestern State University's Fain Fine Arts Center Theatre. The three-week summer intensive workshop brings opera singers from across the country to study with voice teachers, work with nationally-known conductors and perform what they've learned.

The second season of Red River Lyric Opera, produced by former Wichitan Darla Diltz, opens 7:30 p.m. July 18 with Benjamin Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw.” At 7:30 p.m. July 19, the cast and crew will premiere George Frederic Handel’s fantastical “Alcina,” and at 7:30 p.m. July 20, Giacomo Puccini’s classic, “La Boheme,” will be staged. Vittorio Giannini’s short one-act, “Beauty and the Beast,” with added scenes, will be performed 7:30 p.m. July 21.
