When a customer calls to make a reservation at Nanni Ristorante in Rochelle Park, that reservation is penned down in a thick book that rests on a podium near the entrance. When they arrive, a valet greets them in the parking lot. A sign on the door declares "Proper Attire Required." Once inside, their orders are taken down by hand by suited waiters.
In this world of dark green fabric walls, white tablecloths and dim, sultry lighting cast by tiered, glass chandeliers, there are no iPads, no reclaimed wood, no industrial lighting fixtures – nothing trendy or hip. In fact, few things have changed in the past 30 years at Nanni, which is exactly how this old-school Italian restaurant's devoted customers like it.
