If we told you the best dish we had at a restaurant was an appetizer, you might be tempted to think the experience was all downhill from there. But if you applied that logic to our visit to Faro Italian Grille in Laconia, you'd be mistaken. Faro is an upscale Italian restaurant approaching its first anniversary in what used to be the Weirs Beach Lobster Pound just up the hill toward Meredith from the iconic Weirs Beach sign.
Outside, the building still looks something like a seafood place, what with the old faux lighthouse rising above the entrance. ("Faro" is Italian for "lighthouse," so it's all good.) Inside, though, the atmosphere is contemporary and rich, with neutral gray walls and black woodwork, with touches of Italy found in photos and artwork.
