The Leopard at des Artistes, though under fairly new ownership, is no new kid on the block. The restaurant, originally designed as a kitchen for tenants of the New York City's largest "studio" building, the famous Hotel Des Artistes, to use as their apartments came with no or minimal cooking facilities, became "The Café de Artistes" in 1975 when George Lang took it over and transformed it into one of New York's most legendary restaurants of all time. Lang had a cult following of close-by Lincoln Center performers and a long list of actors, celebrities, politicians and New York society members who visited the restaurant regularly.
