Journalist Melonee Hurt talked with Chef Marco Rossi of the Nashville Italian eatery, Tartufo. In addition to dishing about his culinary skills, he also talked about his connection to ‘80s rockers Motley Crue and his conversation with movie legend Clint Eastwood, which in his beautifully thick Italian accent sounds more like “Clinaestawood.” Rossi’s Instagram account looks more like a who’s who of the entertainment industry than that of a chef. He’s hanging with everyone from Kelsea Ballerini and the Backstreet Boys to Florida Georgia Line and Jewel.
When did you know you wanted to be a chef?
I went to the hotel school in Rome, Italy, for three years. I was always fascinated with this industry. After the hotel school, I went to London and Paris working in hotels, and then I landed in Los Angeles 37 years ago. I had a friend with a restaurant in Beverly Hills that was looking for people. My first job kind of ruined me, because at the time it was the finest Italian restaurant in Los Angeles. I was surrounded by all the great musicians and movie stars. It was very interesting!
