Renting a home to approximately 55,000 foreign students who every year choose Italy, results in at least €15 million to the property owners. The estimate comes from Uniplaces, the international portal of ads that works as a sort of "Airbnb for rentals" for students.

The figure regarding the overall revenues is limited to the top 5 university cities in terms of the arrival of foreigners (Rome, Milan, Bologna, Turin and Florence), and it is calculated by multiplying these numbers by the average cost of the rental of a single room traceable on the portal. In Rome, for example, a single goes for around €433 per month, which, considering the approximately 12,000 foreign students, generates a revenue of €5.2 million.
