The turnover of the Italian mineral water market amounted to €2.8 billion in 2016, representing 1% growth compared to the previous year. According to data from the Bevitalia 2017-2018 Yearbook, there were a total of 135 bottling companies operating in Italy last year, producing 255 mineral water brands.
Total production amounted to 14 billion litres, up from 13.8 billion the previous year. Of this, 12.65 billion litres were consumed in Italy, and the rest was exported. With exports of €480 million, Italy is the second biggest mineral water exporter in the world, behind only France (€600 million), which is known for brands such as Evian (which is owned by Danone) and Perrier (Nestlé).
