Reconstructing the COlosseum arena floor: reconstructing history in Rome

In light of the recent proposal to reconstruct the arena floor of the Colosseum, which has caught the attention of the world, it is worth taking into the perspective the rest of the city of Rome, which has a long history of reconstruction of ancient monuments.

Backing up, first a quick review about the Colosseum floor. It is true that already a section has been rebuilt and has been accessible for a number of years, and there's even a 1950s reconstruction of the first-tier seating- both to facilitate understanding of what was once there.
