What's the Big Deal About Barbaresco?

Barbaresco is without question, one of the world's greatest red wines, yet it rarely receives the attention it deserves. Let's examine its framework, and also discover how it is finally starting to gain its proper place among wine's upper echelon. 

Barbaresco is produced exclusively from Nebbiolo in a production zone east of the city of Alba in Italy's Piedmont region. There are three communes, namely Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive – plus a small section of Alba known as San Rocco Seno d'Elvio – where Barbaresco can be produced. Soils in Barbaresco range from older limestone and marine sand (millions of years ago, this area was a vast sea) to rich clay.
