The U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has finally confirmed that Italian apples and pears are welcome to the United States. After an intense round of verification and control activities monitored by U.S: and Italian authorities as well as local producers, national fruits has been recognized as a fresh product that it is useful, convenient and worth to be imported.
At the moment, Italy is one of the world's largest apple exporters, and the top one in the EU. The country is currently exporting 90 per cent of its apples to Europe, but its market position is challenged by China (which alone accounts for 40% of world production).
