The world of streaming has worked wonders when it comes to broadening our pop culture horizons. Not too long ago liking British comedies felt like a niche interest. Now it’s common for shows like complicated international thrillers likeNarcos and Dark to be praised in casual conversations. But there’s one country that’s been getting a little extra love in the States lately — Italy.
It’s not that there have been more Italian characters or mob dramas on the tube lately, though that’s certainly true. There’s been a distinct rise of shows set either in or around Italy from “none” to “way more than none.” But instead of merely leading to some cool new stories, this subtle rise is indicative of a much larger television trend.
