The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) extends its sincere thoughts and prayers for speedy recoveries to the victims of today’s senseless attack on the Republican Party’s congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.
Among the injured was Representative Steve Scalise, U.S. House of Representatives Majority Whip and Representative for Louisiana’s 1st congressional district. A member of the bi-cameral and bi-partisan Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD), Scalise has worked closely with NIAF on issues of importance to the Italian American community and in advancing U.S.-Italy political, cultural and trade relations.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the National Italian American Foundation are with our dear friend Representative Scalise, and all of those who were injured in today’s disturbing events. God bless the Capitol Police and the first responders who do so much for our community.” said John M. Viola, president and COO of NIAF.
Congressman Scalise, a congressional staffer, and members of the United States Capitol Police (USCP) were all injured this morning while attending a Republican congressional baseball practice after a gunman opened fire on the field. None of the victims’ injuries appear to be life-threatening.
