DePalma's offers better versions of classic Italian

DePalma's offers better versions of classic Italian

Pizza, pasta, espresso: the kitchen stylings of the Italian peninsula permeate American food culture. We have a love affair with Italian food – so much so that the overt romanticism behind our pasta and wine can begin to detract from the meal.   Hours of chick flicks and boring dates pile onto the cliché like runaway trains, and our mouths have become...

Italy beyond the tourist traps

Villa Borghese’s “other” museum, in the “Fortezzuola”

by Andrea Carli   If you are going jogging in Villa Borghese, the green oasis in the center of Rome, with Piazza di Siena - the place which hosts the city's international horse show - behind you, turn your head to the right.   You will see a house, a little hidden by plants. If you still have some wind left over, have a...

Strong Showing for Italy at NYIOOC

Strong Showing for Italy at NYIOOC

Despite experiencing one of the worst olive harvests in recent history, Italy maintained its position as the second-most-awarded country at the 2015 New York International Olive Oil Competition last week, just behind Spain.   Italian producers were stung by a series of challenges during the 2014/2015 harvest season, chief among them a bacterial blight that wiped out around 40 percent of production...

Casa D'Angelo to the rescue

Casa D'Angelo to the rescue

Before I catalog the charms of Casa D'Angelo, let me tell you how chef Angelo Elia's wonderful Boca Raton restaurant became the subject of this review. Patience, please. In case you haven't noticed, Boca loves Italian like Miami loves Cuban.   From Old World dining rooms with tuxedoed waiters to mom-and-pop pizza joints with a guy in a white T-shirt taking your order...

Pantochino closes season with 'Cinderella Italiano!'

Umberto Mucci's Interviews

coordinating-the-italian-regions-on-emigration-topicsEvery time I speak with a member of the Italian American community, what impresses me most is the reference to the region of his/her family comes from.
