A popular Italian street food inspires new Piada restaurant in Troy

Imagine a big burrito made with Italian flavors and ingredients, rolled into a thin, flaky, stone-baked crust, and you'll get the idea behind the piada — the signature menu item of the new Piada Italian Street Food restaurant in Troy. Now think of an Italian restaurant that works like Chipotle Mexican Grill — where guests walk down a line and have their food assembled with whatever fresh ingredients they want — and you'll understand Piada's service style.

Serving piadas, pastas, chopped salads and sides, the restaurant is the first Michigan location of a young Columbus, Ohio-based chain named one of 2013's top five "Hot Concepts" by Nation's Restaurant News. Another location is scheduled to open in Shelby Township on Hall Road near Hayes in February or March.
