Bocce tournament held in Springfield

A man with a passion for the sport of his ancestors, Rico Daniele, a leader in Western Massachusetts' Italian American community, continues to be an advocate for his beloved sport of bocce. Daniele and other bocce enthusiasts held a bocce tournament Sunday at the Mount Carmel Society in Springfield's South End neighborhood.

Daniele, the owner of Mom and Rico's food store and restaurant, wrote a book about his love for the game Italian Immigrants brought to Springfield many years ago. Daniele's been instrumental turning bocce into a mainstream activity. "Bocce is a great sport the kids can play with their parents," Daniele told 22News. "We need bocce courts in the schools."
