January 1978 marked the beginning of one of the most dense periods of Italian history. Americans worried about the stability of a Cold War border country, at that point a stage for terrorist attacks by the Red Brigades in an attempt to challenge the Republic's institutions.
Having obtained special access to the declassified archives of the State Department and other unpublished documents, Maurizio Molinari was able to uncover new data from the behind the scenes of a year that marked the history of the Italian democracy.
