Durham votes to dump Christopher Columbus Day title

After much debate, the town will be the first in New Hampshire to recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day. Durham Town Administrator Todd Selig said the decision followed hours of discussion and debate between the Council and the public, with the council designating the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples' Day in Durham. Selig said seven members of the Council voted for the measure, while two were opposed.

Selig said Durham is the first town in New Hampshire to establish an Indigenous Peoples' Day, and he hopes the designation will help more people learn about the history of America and colonialism.
