Deep down, I knew my attention should have been focused on the field of play. But as a man who truly appreciates a good meal, my mind was captivated by the legendary baseball coach with a similar passion for Italian-American cuisine.

"You see, Vince, you take the broccoli rabe and cook it with sausage and potatoes," Dom Cecere explained to me on the sideline during overtime of an Eastchester-Rye boys soccer game this past fall. "But here's the kicker: I add prosciutto di parma. Madonna mia! It'll knock your socks off!"
