The Center for Italian Opera Studies and the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago announce a free symposium, "Giovanna d'Arco in Chicago." A welcome reception begins at 10:30 AM.

Co-sponsored by the Chicago Opera Theater (COT) and the Norman Wait Harris Memorial Fund, the symposium led by Philip Gossett pairs a roster of world-renowned scholars with the creative team that is producing Giuseppe Verdi's rarely-performed opera. Based on the life of Joan of Arc, the opera will be performed by Chicago Opera Theater starting September 21.
