Glorioso's Italian Market: East side staple, heart of family for 70 years

For Michael Glorioso, his family's original market at 1018 E. Brady St. was more than a business — it was "the heart of his family." Michael grew up in an apartment in the back of the store. His father, Teddy Glorioso, was one of the three brothers who helped open the shop on Feb. 14, 1946.

Every day, the store was alive with the scent of spices and fresh food and the sound of customers speaking Italian and Sicilian. "Everything centered around family and food, and that's still — not just for our family, but for many families — why they come here," said Michael, 62, now a general manager of Glorioso's Italian Market.
