His heart may be in San Francisco, but Bennett returns to Worcester

Tony Bennett returns to Worcester for a sold-out show at Hanover Theatre Saturday, April 8. Having recently turned 90, he will keep a slow pace and deliver an abbreviated performance. Not. The singer, whose career spans some six-plus decades, says he has never felt better. Being on stage is right where he wants to be, and that can only mean good things for his audience. “Actually,” Bennett said by email recently, “I feel like I am just starting out, and I just want to keep on going. My doctor kicks me out of his office, and tells me I am doing great.

“But the real thrill for me is that I have been able to spend my life earning a living doing what I love.” He has been doing it since childhood, when he and his siblings – a brother and sister – would entertain their family after a big, Italian-American meal. It was especially uplifting for a family growing up during the Great Depression without a father (Bennett was 10 when his father died).
