Ever since she was a child, growing up in her hometown of Como, she has loved to cook: making a big mess but also learning delicious recipes such as lasagne or ravioli, Paola Lovisetti Scamihorn has learned well, putting her skills to the test every day : Cooking healthy & lovingly IS Italian Cuisine. "This is the way we Italians - as Paola says - learn to cook from generation to generation, through daily practice. Even today that I cook with my kids, it doesn't matter if it's Sunday crostata with seasonal fruit, or fresh homemade bread. I simply love to experiment with different tastes and textures, tingeing from the Italian culinary culture to create my own personal recipes. Cooking is based on chemistry, but also involves fantasy and creativity".

And Fantasy and Creativity are the tools of Paola's "trade" long before becoming a bona fide food writer and blogger, she had a successful career as an international scientific researcher.

"Now that I think of it, fantasy and creativity is the perfect combination for a scientist and a cook, like I am" Paola continues, while we sip a frothy cappuccino on a very sunny Como afternoon. "Cooking, eating healthy food and training have always been my life-long passion and, indeed way of life. A few months ago, while keeping on posting recipes on my blog "Passion & Cooking" ( and giving private cooking classes and lectures in English at schools in Como, I started collaborating with an athlete/personal trainer, Donovan Russell ( to offer people tailor-made programs on healthy food and proper training routines to promote one's health".

Indeed Paola's recipes are nothing short of tasty, simple, nutritious and healthy.

"By eating Italian" – Paola is very passionate about this and has a typical, lovely Italian way of stressing her words, waving her long, delicate fingers – "you will live longer".

Yep. She is absolutely spot on: Italy is the healthiest country in Europe and the second in the world, as documented by scientific literature on the topic.

"You will stay well without sacrificing the pleasure of mouth-watering food. The quality and the quantity make the difference. You are what you eat". Our cappuccino has long been finished and I am starting to think about an excuse to have a go at something, ANYTHING, Paola cooks.

"My recipes are also incredibly accessible and fast to prepare, perfect to share with your family and friends. You can whip up a mouth-watering meal with only a few ingredients, in no time, putting a delectable dinner on the table with a minimum of stress and maximum of taste. The evidence for good health points us back to our home kitchen instead of relying on what the food industry offers us" Paola adds and as the afternoon is still comfortably warm and the odds I might end the interview with a...sampling are in my favor, I beg her to tell me more.

To keep her family culinary heritage alive a few years ago Paola started a cooking blog and last year released a cook book ・ Love is Eating- Healthy and Tasty Italian Recipes for Family Meals (, published in English and with a translation into Italian). This book features simple recipes highlighting fresh, seasonal, local and healthy ingredients. It is unique and modern too, because the traditional recipes have been revised according to Paola's personal tastes - lots of vegetables, low salt, low fat - a truly healthy diet, Mediterranean flavors for everyday living. It mirrors how she lives ・ an authentic, modern Italian woman, a professional, a wife and a mother. Even the image on the cover underscores the authenticity of all these concepts ・ Paola's family having lunch on the terrace overlooking Lake Como - a taste of true Italian lifestyle. This book embodies Italy's well-known images – style, colors, Mediterranean flavors, and of course, great food!

Buon appetito!
