Italian sparkling wines have seen an 8.4% growth in revenue and a 6.6% increase in volume in the retail channel during the first seven months of 2017. The figures, taken from an IRI report, confirm the seasonality of the category and the new consumer trends in daily drinking. Overall, the beverage sector, aided by the favourable summer, registered its tenth consecutive month of sales growth.
With an annual turnover of around €373 million and 56 million litres sold, IRI notes that sparkling wines are now consumed not only on special occasions, but also as a drink throughout the course of the year. Growth in the sparkling-wine market is mainly led by the dry, or secco, segment (+12.4% y/y in value and +10.0% y/y in volume).
