Well, that was a fun concert: a hit parade of arias and orchestral movements from operas by Verdi and Puccini, followed by Respighi's spectacularly vulgar and spectacularly entertaining Roman Festivals.
The perpetrators Friday night were the Dallas Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor Roberto Abbado and tenor Carl Tanner. Alas, great swaths of empty seats at the Meyerson Symphony Center suggested this holiday weekend wasn't the best time to schedule these concerts.
