As Scranton's government struggles it's more important than ever for civic institutions to demonstrate that the community, beyond the municipal government, remains strong.
A literally glowing example is La Festa Italiana of Lackawanna County's decision to contribute up to $10,000 for renovation of the iconic Electric City sign atop the Scranton Electric Building. The sign overlooks Courthouse Square, where La Festa Italiana annually conducts its celebration of Italian-American food and culture over the Labor Day weekend.
