LA VIGILIA Italian Christmas Food Traditions

You are cordially invited to attend a lecture and food sampling at the Italian American Museum this Thursday, December 18th. Naples-born registered dietitian, nutritionist and food blogger Fiorella DiCarlo will discuss Italian Christmas culinary traditions, the customs and food traditions of Southern Italy and the origins of La Vigilia: The Feast of the Seven Fishes.

She will recount cooking with her family, the importance of the Presepio, Babbo Natale and the lore of La Befana (The Christmas Witch) as well as the songs and games they played. As a dietitian, she will also explain the innate benefits of eating Italian style and how to make this Christmas healthy and delicious. Fiorella will also make some of her delicious crostini for the guests to sample!

It will be a night filled with great stories, raffle items and food samples from great vendors: A'Putia, City Saucery, Fiscalini Cheese, Pallini Limoncello, Perugina, Rao's Specialty Foods and Urbani Truffles!

About Fiorella DiCarlo:

Fiorella is a Registered Dietitian and has both clinical and research experience in medical nutrition therapy. She is considered a food and nutrition expert by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

She has a B.S in Nutrition and Food Science. Her training also includes two post graduate training programs from the Women's Therapy Institute in Eating and the Body: A Cultural, Relational Psychoanalytic Framework and another from the William Alanson White Institute for Psychoanalysis in Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions.

Her private practice specializes in Eating Disorders and helping people Change their Relationship with Food. FiorellaEats is an exploration of food culture through the eyes and taste buds of an Italian born, U.S raised Registered Dietitian who is in love with food! Fiorella is a foodie & food curator first and chronicles the food scene in NYC through its cuisines, art, and cultural events.
