Lo Stella Ristorante in Denver's Golden Triangle

I don't know if Alessandro Polo knew about the extensive history of Italian immigrants in Denver when he moved here in 2013, but he certainly brought plenty of his own. Polo, who owns Lo Stella Ristorante in the Golden Triangle, is an eighth-generation restaurateur from Portofino, a seaside city near Genoa that is nestled on the Riviera along Italy's northwest coast.

His family has operated a restaurant there for more than 165 years, according to Polo, who actually relocated from Tokyo after operating an outpost there. Lo Stella occupies the space that once housed Gallo di Nero, a short-lived spot at 1135 Bannock St. It is a deceptively deep room.
