Nonna Urban Eatery now open in Old Town Scottsdale

Unless you were looking for it, you might breeze past Nonna Urban Eatery, a matchbox-size lunch and dinner spot in Old Town Scottsdale. The restaurant is set back off Main Street, almost hidden in a courtyard on the east end of the street. If you look while walking past, you’ll spot the bright, sunshine-colored chairs on the patio. Opened by a husband-and-wife team in February, chef Gian Franco Brugaletta runs the open kitchen while wife Valentina Huerta works the front of the house.

There is a heavy emphasis on Italian, but don’t be surprised to find global accents, especially Asian. It might be edamame, “seared” yellowtail sashimi, prosciutto-wrapped melon or arancini stuffed with Italian ham and cheese. Brugaletta was recently the chef at the pan-Asian Buddha-Bar in Monte-Carlo, Monaco, before moving to Scottsdale, which explains the Asian touches on the mostly Italian menu.
