The new season of exhibitions at Turin’s CAMERA Italian center for photography opens with a display of more than 200 pictures from the last 70 years of Italian history. Its title, “The Italy of Magnum. From Henri Cartier-Bresson to Paolo Pellegrin” aims to pay homage to 70 years of the Magnum photo cooperative agency and at the same offer the public a review of the works of 20 photographers – from Robert Capa to Martin Parr, who told the history of Italy from the post-war period onward through their images.

The exhibition is introduced by pictures taken by French photographer Cartier-Bresson during his travels in Italy in the 1930s. This is then followed by works of the Hungarian Capa and his photos of an Italy that was defeated and selling out to its victors, as told by Italian writer Curzio Malaparte. But at the same time it was an Italy that even in 1947 was seeing tourists return to visit the Sistine Chapel in Rome, immortalized in pictures by David Seymour. They highlight the beauty of Italian history as a source of a rebirth after the wartime destruction.
