From about 1887 to 1920, the United States saw a large migration of Italians to the East Coast. Many settled in Philadelphia, Hammonton and Cape May County. South Jersey natives may know it, but for thousands of visitors, there is little evidence of the abundance of Italian culture in South Jersey. It’s common to hear, “I didn’t know there was Italian history here.”
Mary Ann McFadden, 70, of Sea Isle City, came across a mention of an Italian culture club at Avalon Free Public Library and became a member about four years ago. Terri Breslin leads the group, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this month.
