Trio salutes Italian influence in music

Lovers of Italian opera and Dean Martin alike, prick up thy ears. The New York classical threesome O Sole Trio comes to the campus of CSU Monterey on Saturday for a show titled “From Pavarotti to Pop: How Italy and Italian-Americans influenced American Popular Music.”

O Sole Trio consists of two vocalists and an instrumentalist – soprano Erin Shields, baritone Giuseppi Spoletini and pianist/violinst David Shelton. Their “Pavarotti” performance embraces everything from Italian operas to Louis Prima to Frank Sinatra in innovative new arrangements. The event takes places Saturday, April 15 at the World Theater at CSUMB. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $32 general; $40 Gold Circle seating. Details:
