Complementing their Westfield High School studies in the Italian language, 14 students traveled to Italy this year with chaperones, including Italian teacher Maria Santilli. "The trip aimed to offer students an opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of the culture and language that they had been studying in school," Santilli said.
The trip included three days in Florence, including a viewing of Michelangelo's David; walks along the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River, and spectacular views of the city from the bell tower of the Duomo. Students also took a day trip to Pisa where they visited the famous leaning tower.
