Today I'm very pleased to announce you the brand new John Cabot University and We The Italian's Italian-American Heritage Scholarship. In order to recognize this important tie between Italy and the U.S., as well as the legacy that Italian immigrants to the United States have contributed to both countries, John Cabot University and We The Italians are pleased to offer a half-tuition scholarships, to be applied to one semester, available to two study abroad or degree-seeking students each year.

To apply, students must submit a 500-word essay or a 3-minute video explaining why their Italian heritage is important to them, and how they will take full advantage of their time at John Cabot University to discover and get more in touch with their Italian roots. Eligibility requirements include: American citizenship or permanent residency, Italian ancestry (at least one grandparent who emigrated from Italy), and acceptance to study at John Cabot University either as a study abroad or a degree-seeking student. You can contact [email protected] for more information.

Starting this number, our online magazine will have a new column, called "The Italian Way". Our good friend Elda Buonanno Foley, an associate professor of Italian Studies with a PhD. in Comparative Literature who has published extensively on teaching methodology, on literature and film and organized several workshops on language performance and effective teaching activities, and who is also an Italian cooking expert and a tutor in healthy family eating, will describe some of the typical Italian way of doing things. In this forst article, she'll tell us about something very very Italian: Gestures and Meanings.

Last but not least, the column about the Italian Cinema is back! A brand new author will tell us about the seventh art from the Italian perspective: Edoardo Peretti is a young talented critic and film journalist, graduated with a thesis on how Italian cinema has told our emigration. Action!

That's all for now. So stay tuned, fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride. The future's so bright, we gotta wear shades!
