The Greater Ramsey UNICO, an Italian-American community organization, hosted its first boccie ball tutorial and tournament, drawing about 22 competitors and raising about $1,000 on Oct. 20.
The group plans to make it an annual event, said Peter Reganato, chapter director.
Joseph Verdone, a borough councilman and a chapter past president, said that since 2004 the local UNICO has raised and donated $225,000 to four local charities: Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling, Ramsey; Meaningful Movements, Midland Park; Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels, Westwood, and the Center for Food Action. Inserra ShopRite of Ramsey and WE Solutions, New York City, sponsored the event.
