Rosa Tatuata brings Sicily’s music to Middletown, CT at the Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts & Cultural Center on December 14th at 8pm. The band will be presenting an evening of the lively and celebratory Folk and Roots Music of Sicily, together with traditional Sicilian & Southern Italian Christmas songs.

Rosa Tatuata is musicians Michela Musolino, Phil Passantino, Charlie Rutan and Jeff Panettieri and they have as much fun making Sicilian music as their audiences do listening to them. Rosa Tatuata will have the crowd singing along and dancing to the sounds of tarantellas, balletti, love songs, work songs - songs our ancestors sang in their daily lives as they worked and as they celebrated.

Musolino is known for her riveting interpretations of Sicilian folk songs and circulates between the USA and Italy, bringing to audiences the Sicilian folk music she loves. Musolino is elated to be back at the Buttonwood Tree in December, because, “ We’ll be celebrating Christmas! Besides our regular repertoire of folk songs, we’ll also bring Sicilian and Southern Italian Christmas songs. All throughout Southern Italy, this is the time of the year when the zampognari ( Southern Italian bagpipers) come down from the hills and make music to celebrate the holiday. So come celebrate with us, Rosa Tatuata, and our own zampognaro at the Buttonwood Tree on December 14th.”

Love of Sicilian and Southern Italian Roots Music is what drives ROSA TATUATA to passionately interpret the traditions and melodies of their ancestors. Just as their name comes from Tennessee Williams’ beloved play about the happy, raucous collision of immigrant and American cultures; likewise ROSA TATUATA’s performance communicates that incredible commingling to their beloved audience through song!

Fueled by their research into traditional instruments like the tamburo ( Sicilian frame drum), organetto, marranzano ( jaw’s harp) and zampogna ( Southern -Italian bagpipes) and lira Calabrese, ROSA TATUATA introduces traditional songs into different musical contexts that rhythmically mirror the commingling of Old & New World. With an enchanting mix of ballads and dance tunes, ROSA TATUATA will take your imagination to sunbathed Southern Italy and the clear, crystal-blue waters surrounding Sicily. See Michela Musolino, Phil Passantino, Charlie Rutan and Jeffrey Panettieri as ROSA TATUATA.
