Ciao from Rome, welcome to the #104 magazine of We the Italians!
While We the Italians is working for great news, which we hope to be able to announce soon, this month we have been part of three important events here in Italy.
The presentation organized by We the Italians of the documentary film "Frances Xavier Cabrini: The People's Saint", with the director Lucia Mauro and the producer Joe Orlandino, and the presence of Monsignor Guerino Di Tora, President of Fondazione Migrantes, the most important institution that helps emigrants here in Italy, was a great success. More than 150 people attended the screening and the following debate. A great day of celebration of an exceptional Italian American, and of the excellence of the Italian hospitality brought to America by Mother Cabrini.
Another interesting event to which we had the pleasure of being invited was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: we talked about Return Tourism, that new type of tourism that every year brings more and more Italians abroad to visit Italy and in particular the places where their families have their roots. One of the most important authorities in this field is Marina Gabrieli, great friend of We the Italians, who was among the organizers of the meeting. Tourism will have more and more space in We the Italians' future initiatives, and certainly this is a theme that you will soon hear us talking about again.
The third meeting we attended was the 70th anniversary of the creation of the US-Italy Fulbright Commission. In the presence of the Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanese, the Italian Ambassador to Washington H.E. Armando Varricchio and the new American Ambassador to Rome H.E. Lew Eisenberg, NIAF representative Anita McBride, Fulbright Program Director in Italy Paola Sartorio and Director of Centro Studi Americani Paolo Messa, celebrated the 70th birthday of this wonderful institution, together with American scholars at the end of their semester in Italy, and Italian scholars about to leave for the United States. The Fulbright program perfectly exemplifies the concept of Two Flags One Heart, which is why We the Italians will always be a great supporter of it.
Finally, we inform you that We the Italians is dealing with Baseball. You will find in this issue the first of two new articles about Italians - born in Italy - who played baseball in MLB: and above all, we are preparing a September surprise, which will talk about Italian Americans and baseball, along with the Federazione Italiana Baseball e Softball. Stay tuned!
