To Mark the 75th Anniversary of the Allied Invasion of Sicily the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles cordially invites you to a special presentation Exploring the Work of Photographer Phil Stern.

The event includes a film screening and book presentation featuring Phil Stern. Sicily 1943, the War and the Soul (37 minutes, directed by Ezio Costanzo and Filippo Arlotta) and Snapdragon: The World War II Exploits of Darby’s Ranger and Combat Photographer Phil Stern (Liesl Bradner, Osprey Publishing, 2018).

Phil Stern, best known as Frank Sinatra’s personal photographer, captured legends including Marilyn Monroe, JFK, James Dean, and Billie Holiday with his lens. During WWII, Stern was a combat photographer who documented the liberation of Sicily. Stern died in Los Angeles in 2014 at the age of 95.

Liesl Bradner is a Los Angeles-based journalist who has covered the arts, culture, and history for publications such the Los Angeles Times, The New Republic, The Guardian, and Variety.
