Scotch Plains resident Alphonse Fantini celebrated his 100th birthday at a gathering hosted at the Italian American Club in Scotch Plains on Friday, Oct. 18. The party featured pasta, veal and peppers, bake clams, and other Italian food, along with wine and a cake to celebrate the century mark.
Mr. Fantini was born on October 8, 1919, and has been a resident of Scotch Plains since coming to the U.S. in 1928 from Montazzoli, Italy, at the age of 9, when his parents settled in Scotch Plains, where he still resides. During WWII, he was a Coast Artillery Army sergeant in the Pacfic. He also worked as a welder for 55 years at Hosokowa Micron Powder Systems
