The Columbus Day Parade has been on the upswing in recent years thanks to a series of dynamic parade chairmen who have taken the venerable event to new heights. This year’s chairman is no exception. With Greco & Sons VP Lino Greco at the helm, 2019 festivities will feature additional busing locations, a new parade start time, dignitaries from the U.S. military and the Italian government, a famed marching band from Italy, and a new site for the post-parade reception.
Parade-goers can bus to and from the event on Oct. 14 from Casa Italia in Stone Park, Tony’s Finer Foods in Itasca and Our Lady Mother of the Church in Chicago. The parade will start at noon instead of 12:30 p.m. to accommodate TV coverage. Joining local elected officials on the front line of the parade will be Brig. Gen. Kris A. Belanger (Spadavecchia), and Ettore Rosato and Francesco Scoma, vice president and secretary, respectively, of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies.
