The Christopher Columbus statue outside of Worcester’s Union Station was covered in red paint for the second time since June 2020. According to the Worcester Police Department, someone threw red paint onto the statue, which faces the Washington Square rotary, sometime early Wednesday morning before walking away. An investigation is underway, officials said.
According to Spectrum News 1, Worcester DPW workers were seen power washing the statue Wednesday morning. The statue was also covered in red paint in June of 2020. Across the country, many have called for Columbus statues to come down citing his participation in the brutalization and sex trafficking of indigenous people.
